abstract
background and aims: helicobacter pylori (h. pylori) is the microorganism that infects nearly half of word's population. there are several invasive and non-invasive methods for diagnosis of infection. the main objective of this study was to evaluate antigen of h. pylori in feces with h. pylori stool antigen (hpsa) test and comparison with rapid urease test (rut) in the patients suspected to be infected. material and methods: one hundred thirty-seven subjects (56 males, 81 females) were recruited from those patients undergoing a gastrointestinal endoscopic examination in the endoscopy units of shahid sadoughi university of medical sciences. one biopsy specimen was obtained from the stomach and each biopsy specimen per subject was tested for the presence of urease using the commercially available clo test. stool specimens were taken concurrently with the endoscopic examination and tested by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (elisa) method for presence of hpsa. in this study, rut was considered as a gold standard test. results: the mean age was 40.4±1.12 years. 13.3% of samples were shown hpsa-positive and negative rut and 12.9% were shown hpsa-negative and positive rut. sensitivity and specificity of hpsa test was 86.6% and 87.1%, respectively. positive and negative predictive values and accuracy were 89%, 84.3%, 86.2%, respectively. conclusions: our findings showed that the stool enzyme immunoassay for h. pylori is a useful method for the primary diagnosis of h. pylori in the patients suspected to be infected.

Determination of Helicobacter pylori Antigen in Stool Samples and Comparison with Rapid Urease Test in Patients Suspected of Helicobacter Infection
Background and Aims: Helicobacter pylori (H. Pylori) is the microorganism that infects nearly half of word's population. There are several invasive and non-invasive methods for diagnosis of infection. The main objective of this study was to evaluate antigen of H. Pylori in feces with H. pylori stool antigen (HpSA) test and comparison with rapid urease test (RUT) in the patients suspected to be ...
full textThe Evaluation of Diagnostic and Predictive Values of Helicobacter pylori Stool Antigen Test in Iranian Patients with Dyspepsia
Background and Objectives: Iran, as a developing country, is experiencing high burdens of Helicobacter pylori (Hp)-associated non-communicable diseases. Hp stool antigen test (HpSA) is widely used as an inexpensive and feasible noninvasive method to diagnose Hp infection, instead of invasive approaches. The current study aimed at evaluating th...
full textRapid Urease Test and Faecal Antigen Detection for Rapid Diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori Infection in Dyspepsia
Background: Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is considered as one of the most prevalent gastric infections which cause chronic gastritis and predispose to cancer stomach. So, diagnosis and eradication should be rapid to decrease the risk of gastric cancer. Aim of the study: To evaluate the role of rapid urease test (RUT) and faecal antigen test (FAT) added to serological test for rapid diagnosis...

Objective: Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is the most common pathogenic bacteria in the stomach. The aim of the current study was to explore the effect of oral garlic administration on bacterial urease activity inside the stomach and its contribution to the treatment of H. pylori infection. Materials and Methods: In this clinical trial, 15 patients were studied quantitatively with Urease Bre...
full textComparison PCR Method and Rapid Urease Test to Detect Helicobacter Pylori in the Gastric Biopsy Tissue Samples
Background & Objective: Helicobacter pylori has been recognized as a major risk factor in gastric and duodenum ulcers and gastric cancer. Some laboratory tests, such as culture, are not entirely satisfying. The aim of this study is to compare RUT with PCR in identifying H. pylori in the gastric biopsy tissue samples.Materials & Methods: First, the standard H.pylori sample (N:oC30) was provided....

An evaluation of a rapid test for the presence of Helicobacter pylori from stool specimens looking for antigen proceeded for a period of 8 months from March to November 2011. A total of 212 stool samples were collected from 2 different hospitals in Holy Makkah City. Twenty six patients were positive for H. pylori by the ELISA test which was used as the gold standard. The rapid test when compare...
